What does "Open Cost" Postage and Packing Fees Mean?

Since March 2007, Trading on Ebay has undergone significant reform. Particularly in respect to a Seller's Detailed Feedback; Description, Communication, Despatch, Postage/Packing fees are all now rated and clearly visible.

As an Established Retailer/Ebay Trader this is the only criteria which we've been marked down on, perhaps because we'll post via "Recorded Delivery" only? Our position is fundamental, "Signed For" delivery absolves all parties from liabilities, we've dealt with numerous "claims" from recipients who have actually signed for their items! Would anyone like to imagine/share the incidence of queries if despatches were not track-able?

From April all our new listings will feature "Open Cost" Postage/Packing fees. We will state the Packed Weight for shipping, How the item is packed, in specific cases the price of the packaging materials e.g. a Reinforced Poster Tube costs us 95p. "Bubble-lined" envelopes, Brown Tape, Hardback envelopes incur cost, sadly these are not given to us free. We send the majority of our goods in Recycled Boxes, these are FREE! All packing materials are factored into our quoted Postage prices.....

Given the above specifics, any prospective buyer can verify our Postage prices on royalmail.com/pricefinder. This confirms the Postage price to all countries from the UK, under a given service/method. It should be evident our prices are as per Royalmail + 20p to 50p typically (Posters +95p per tube).

We aim to be transparent/fair with our practices and do not attempt to profit from Postage and Packing. We hope one day this will be adopted as an "Industry Standard" or a "Weights and Measures Act" on Ebay...
