This is more of a Blog than a review. However it does contain some usefull information for anyone buying a Psion PDA for the first time.

I have recently started work on repairing some of my broken spares (psion-3 series machines). They have been lying in a drawer, just waiting for me to allocate some me-time. I enjoy tinkering with failed gadgets and getting them working again is right up my street. Anyway, one thing I would like to find are replacement Psion screens. A cheap source of these items would resurrect a few more of my broken reserves.
So I looked at some company websites that deal in Psion machines –
First one I tried was SRS (based in Germany).
They have an excellent stock of spares. Prices are very steep. I would only consider them for keeping my own personal machine working. Repairing a Psion using spares from SRS would not be economical if I planned to sell the machine. Still, it was encouraging to see that there is still comprehensive support out there for the Psions.
Next one I went for a look at was Pulster (again based in Gemany – Shame on the UK)
I have not looked at the website in ages. It was always very limited in what was on offer.
Boy did I get a surprise! Loads of machines on sale. That was a very pleasant surprise. Looking at this website one could believe that the Psion is making a revival and returning to mainstream PDA use (where it belongs). For some items the prices were very good. For instance, a Psion-5mx for 180 pounds. That to me is a decent price for a machine guaranteed for a year.
I decided it was time to go and look at Pinnock Organiser Services (POS to you and I).
This well established company came to prominence when they supplied repair services in the days when Psion Ltd could not cope with the demand for repairs and upgrades. After Psion PLC folded, POS kept themselves busy supplying an excellent one-stop-shop service for all Psion machine requirements. In recent years they have branched-out into other portable electronics. This to me seemed to be their way of moving on. I respect they have to stay in business but regretted the fact that one day they might not look after the needs of the Psion community. So today I clicked around the website and was taken aback. POS have now extended their portfolio by widening the range of products and services on offer for the Psion user. I see that they are now producing a new version of the 5mx. Very impressed.
Looking at just these three sites has made me happy. Not because I found the spares I was looking for. I was happy because I can see that Psions are still going strong and the day I will have to give up on mine is still some way in the future.
Feeling very happy that my psion will never have to leave me.
