Recognising skin types is important when it comes to skin care, because only then can you choose the right product for the different skin types.

To recognise a skin type is not difficult if you know what tolook for.  When defining a skin typ0e, pay attention to:

  • sebal activity
  • the size of the pores
  • the structure of the skin

Oily Skin

Oily skin is quite a common skin type, that can be divided into two types:

  • surface dry oil skin and
  • greasy oily skin

The surface dry oily skin feels tight all over because there is no moisture on the surface but there is grease underneath.

Greasy, oily skin is oily on and undernaeath the surface, and it never feels tight. Oily skin usually becomes surface dry during winder, which is why you should use richer Skin Care products during that period.

Oily skin is common with young people, but adult skin can also be oily.  Oily skin doesn't necessarily have impurities, but because of the increased activity in the sebal glands the pores easily clog, and spots appear.  However, oily skin does not develop surface lines easily.

  • sebal activity - Increased sebum and sweat, skin is shiny during the day and make-up doesn't stay on.
  • structure - thicker than normal, the skin appears thick and is dusky grey in appearance.
  • pore size - The pores are enlarged and open and they are clearly visible
  • care - surface dry oily skin -
    • Cleansing lotion for oily/combination skin
    • Alcohol free toner for dry skin
    • Day cream for oily/combination skin
    • Night cream for dry skin
    • Exfoliate once a week
    • Alternate with moisturising and cleansing mask.

greasy oily skin -

    • Use products for oily skin
    • Use a face scrub at least once a week
    • Use a cleansing mask when neaded.

Look in my shop Top It All for products for oily and greasy skin under the Oriflame page. The descriptions of products give advice on the skin type.
