I recently purchased a remote key fob for my 2001 V70 through eBay. On going to my local Volvo dealer I was informed that this could not be programmed to my vehicle although it was the correct version of the fob. This is the 4 function fob with a yellow button on bottom left. Alternative is new keys and fobs with software upgrade all costing about £350+.  I contacted one of the eBay sellers of  programmes for this asking if  he/she could guarantee that their programme would work on my vehicle.  I did not receive a reply.   I would think that the same applies to other similar post 2000/2001 volvos.  I do  know however that it is possible to reprogramme pre 2001 V70's fairly easily.
