Most of the world’s top scientists now agree that the world’s climate is increasingly being warmed by a rise in CO2 emissions and finally world leaders are acting on this. All this will lead to great changes in our food production and the world’s forests. Global warming will put ecosystems under great stress leading to a reduction in the biodiversity of the planet. Coasts and low lying areas will be susceptible to flooding and some communities will be inundated. The health of the nation will be compromised by increased viruses, tropical illness and other illnesses carried by flying insects, the heat affecting the very young and old alike. Industry, settlements and society will be affected by more frequent extreme weather events and shortages of climate sensitive resources like food and water.

Global warming could also cause the Gulf Stream to move away from our island’s shores which would have a further dramatic destabilising effect on the British climate.

Bleak isn't it? Our generation and those before us have much to answer for and it is an awful legacy for our children & grandchildren to deal with. There is still time to start turning things around and work together with the natural world. Each of us must take responsibility to reduce our own personal carbon footprint using the technology available today. If we lead the way, others will surely follow.
