I tried running a TD4 Freelander on a SVO/diesel mix, (the Freelander has a BMW common rail diesel) the mix was25/75 it ran fine for around 3000 miles then started to play up. I should say the Freelander had already done 47000 miles in two years on straight diesel with no problems.
The engine would be a bugger to start in the mornings and sometime would not pull until I reved it, then it would be ok. Then the engine managment light started flashing on the dash, and the enginge would go into limp mode. The Landrover dealer changed the High pressure fuel sensor and all was fine for around 2000 miles then the problem started again. At this point I stopped using the mix, the dealer changed the same sensor, the fault cleared, and then came back 1700 miles later, they then changed the low pressure lift pump at the tank and all was well. and the car when on for another 25000 miles before I sold it, It has clocked up a further 29000 miles with out a fault on diesel.
A freind of mine tried running his Freelander (TD4) on a 50/50 mix and has had simular problems. The Freelander Hand book says it is NOT BIO FUEL compatable so be warned, maybe Common rail diesels do not like Verggi oil!
