Buying a samsung e700 or other "Flip" type models with a faulty display may seem like a good idea, especially if the seller says it's an "easy fix", it's "only the ribbon cable that needs replacing".....but read on.
Typical faults experienced with a damaged ribbon cable are.... no display, or white or fading main screen, or faulty front display, or faulty camera operation. Intermittant faults are a dead givaway for a ribbon cable which is starting to break up, and will quickly become worse with use.
The ribbon cable unit itself, actually consists of a plug which connects to the main board + the ribbon + the full display printed circuit board. These parts are an "all in one" part and cannot be separated.
The only way to fix a faulty ribbon cable, is to replace this entire unit.
Some sellers from the Far East are selling the replacement plug, ribbon and lcd circuit board... currently approx 2 gbp plus delivery.... BUT BEWARE...the buyer would need to un-solder the front and main lcd displays, and then refit them to the new pcb....NOT an easy task unless you own a professional hot air solder-rework station.
The other option is to buy a full replacement display pcb complete with integral plug, ribbon cable, and front / main lcd displays already fitted... This is more expensive....currently approx 16 gbp plus delivery.
Whatever you decide....a faulty ribbon cable is definately not an easy repair on these phones.
Samsung "Slide" type phones are however, an easier fix when it comes to replacing the ribbon cables. The hardest part is usually dismantling the phone to get to the ribbon area. A search on google can sometimes direct you to sites with downloadable "dismantle" videos.
