We recently auctioned some car electronic equipment, for which we had a number of bids. It eventually sold for over £1000, and the transaction was completed successfully.
However, one of the unsuccessful bidders contacted us, saying we had sent him a second-chance offer, and he was ringing to arrange payment. He gave me the name of the person who had contacted him, who did not work for us, and we had never heard of him. It was a good thing the bidder got in touch with us first, otherwise he may have paid out a lot of money and got nothing.
To prevent becoming a victim of this scam, I can only suggest contacting the seller direct through ebay, not through any other number they may give you, and make sure they are who they say they are. I am assuming second-chance offers can only be made via ebay, so if someone rings you up to offer you an item, be cautious.
