The simple answer is that spending extra money for a DVD player with a HDMI output just isn't worth it. Wait for HD-DVD or Blu-ray players to come down in price, these devices will look a lot better than DVD and can use the digital signal more effectively.
Pro:
Simple connection to "HD ready" TV/monitors
Cons:
No CRT (cathode ray tube) TV set supports HDMI
Picture on LCD/Plasma is still blurry
DVD resolution is far lower than the resolution of a HD signal so the picture is not improved.
Upscaling technology makes no improvement to the movie (only the player's menus are sharpened)
HDMI is a requirement of HD sources such as SKY/Telewest HD boxes, the next-gen consoles (PS3/Xbox360) and next-gen video players (Blu-ray/HD-DVD). HD-ready TV sets will only come with one socket so why waste the feature on an incapable DVD player?
