I often get asked if a sight will fit the Tippman A5 paintball gun - Normally this related to the very nice little open eye red dot sight that is one of my best sellers.

The A5’s sight grooves mimic those of the HK MP5.  A ringed post sight is in the front, and four selectable notches in the rear line up the A5 on target.  As iron sights go, they are pretty quick to use.  Good for sneaky aimed ambush shots.

While most players avoid the sights all together and simply walk their paint stream to the target, those wishing to use a scope or dot sight can mount it on the A5’s 3/8” (11mm) or weaver sight (20mm) rails. These distances refer to the distance between the 2 grooves that run along the top of the gun body. So measure them to see what type you have as there are model variants.

Most will be 3/8" which is generally called "Standard." Weaver types are too wide for my red dot which has fixed standard rail mounts only. If you do have weaver rails then I don't have a red dot to suit but you might consider one of my telescopic sights like the 4x32 shortie mated up with weaver mounts. Paintball guns in general vary a lot in relation to sights. I find that most day play rental guns aren't suitable for them due to on gun vertical feeds that prevent line of sight - The important thing with paintball guns is the hopper position on top. If it is a vertical feed then there will be no line of sight so a sight of any type will not work.

If it is offset then have a look down the body of the gun and ask yourself if a sight that's sitting say 2 inches off the gun, give you line of sight OK.
