Smartmedia cards can become corrupted by cheap card readers making them useless in olympus and fuji cameras.The cards have a low level format file system that is invisable to windows, just reading them can corrupt the card .When placed back in the camera a warning "card error" willl be displayed and the camera is unable to replace the low level format information.The card will work fine in windows because windows does not need the corrupted files to access the card.I found out the hard way by ruining seven cards .The only safe way to transfer your pictures is to charge up your batteries and upload onto the computer using the camera.Hope this helps .PS.i have managed to obtain the required software and a special card writer to repair back to factory settings smartmedia cards .If you need any cards reformatting back to factory settings get in touch-mick grant.
