I have kept Rabbits and Guinea pigs most of my life, now my children are older I decided to let them own their own.
However Foxes can be a major problem and security of your new pet is vital.
I bought a couple of wooden hutches from a large well know chain of pet shops, this was a false economy.
The bolt type locks were secure enough, but it wasn't long before the weather took hold and the wood began to swell making it difficult for the children to access the hutches without my help, the other problem was one of our Rabbits (Thumper, very original I know) a French Lop really didn't like being contained. Within weeks she had chewed through the wood and escaped, it was only thanks to our Collie that she was safely cornered and placed in another wooden hutch.
I went back to the well known chain of pet supplies shops and had a look around for something more secure, it was there I found the Snugs moulded plastic hutch, it looked good, but expensive.
I decided to search on ebay and found this seller http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/nikiocean/
the products looked good, so I thought I'd give it a try, the prices were very competitive and the quality seemed to be what I was looking for.
I was outbid, but sent another offer and accepted and bought my first Snugs hutch.
It arrived quickly, and at first glance I was impressed, large, easy to clean with a drain hole for water, so it can be jet washed as often as I like with no fear of damage.
The doors are easy for a child to open and use, the hutch itself solid and unbreakable.
Thumper was soon comfy in her beautiful girly pink hutch.
That was quite some time ago, to date she has been unable to chew through the tough hutch and is safe and secure from the foxes that visit my garden at night.
I bought another for my Sons Guinea Pigs, this time because I like the fact I can get them in a variety of colours, and I am confident in their security.
As unpredictable as life can be, it so turned out the Guinea pigs I'd recently bought were expecting, here's a picture of our bonus babies in their secure new home
Two weeks later the second Guinea pig gave birth to three more, of the 5 we kept 3, the first two seen above have since been rehomed with my little Nieces, my Sister wanted a good quality hutch and my little Nieces wanted a gorgeous girly pink one like their cousin had, so, on behalf of my sister I went back to the seller and bought another funky pink one for our new additions.
I bought another a few days ago, I am so pleased with the strength, durability and user friendly nature with these I would highly recommend them to anyone with Guinea pigs or small to medium size Rabbits.
They are chew proof, weather proof, fox proof, easy to clean, warm and secure, yet easy enough for children to open, close and clean.
The choice of colours is a bonus, you can get them loud and funky or calm and neutral, but as an animal and wildlife lover, I am so pleased with these, they are worth every penny and should look fantastic and stay strong and secure for many rodent generations.
The traditional wooden hutches have since retired and are being used as hay storage. :o)
