Sony Playstation 3 or Microsoft Xbox 360
Its been the main question on a the console gamers mind since their release in 2007. Last year, it was clearly obvious, xbox 360 really did hump the PS3. Now this isnt a biased review, I take no sides. Personally I am a PC gamer, I do occasionally play some Halo 3 on xbox live or watch a blu ray dvd on my PS3.
So as you should have guessed I have all 3 platforms. The PC, The 360 and The PS3. So weve heard this argument 1000 times now it seems: "Xbox 360 has better games, but the PS3 hasnt had time to catch up" Well now Sony has had over a year to give us some great games, and what has it came up with? Haze? Killzone2? Metal Gear Solid? These all look like very promising titles, but they are still not on the shelves!! which is why gamers are turning back to the Xbox
Well it seems that 2008 really is the year of the PS3. It has lowered its prices down to under £300 now, so its only £50 more expensive than the 360. And what does that extra £50 get you? Built in Wi-Fi (Additional £40 on the 360) Free online Gaming (Additional £30 per year on the 360 but remember xbox live is still the console gamers favourite) and of course the Blu Ray Player - which is not an option on the 360.
Now while we are talking about the ps3's blu ray capabilities. Now hd-dvd has been defeated, all of the major studios are backing Blu Ray discs, and HD-Dvd has been forgotten already it seems. So the HD-dvd player is obselete, and the 360 cannot support blu ray! So what does this mean? will Microsoft release a xbox 360 that has a blu ray drive! (they will probably have to as in a few years games will be made on blu ray discs when they become the standard format!)
So 2008 is already pointing in the PS3's favour:
-
Blu Ray is now the next gen disc format, and only the PS3 can support this.
-
PS3 is starting to show some promising titles such as Haze, Baja, MGS4, Motorstorm2, Killzone2, Resistance2, Bioshock! and there are even rumours that the ps3 will be getting Crysis!! (a little toned down obviously)
-
The Ps3 is now £279.99 and there will be even more price drops, so it is only £30 more expensive than the 360
So looking at these 3 facts, Blu Ray, New Games and Price Drop: I think it is safe to say that 2008 really will be the year for the PS3. By summer the 360 will be forgotten, unless it pushes out some VERY good titles, has a MAJOR price drop and does something about a Blu Ray player.
And as a final note remember that the PS3 is almost 100% reliable, something like 1 in 1000 PS3's break down, and now 2 in every 3 xbox 360's will get the RROD within the first 3 months of purchase!!!! (WTF) remember that ps3 has Blu Ray - and the cheapest blu ray player from currys would probably set you back about £400, the PS3 is £280! and it has built in Wi-Fi, and by Autumn this year it will have some killer titles.
So maybe with that last paragraph im starting to sound like im a PS3 "fanboy" well no that is not the case, I have both consoles, I still love my 360, FOR NOW it has better games and I think that the xbox live will always be best unless sony does a major revamp with its online services. But to be honest i think that i am now swaying towards the PS3 (its a 60/40 split :D) But only time will tell, who knows maybe Microsoft will release an Xbox 360 Ultimate, with built in wifi, built in blu ray player, and sort out its cooling problems and the RROD problems.
....BUT. Even if microsoft do release an xbox ultimate with blu ray player and built in Wifi. Remember that the xbox is at its limits in terms of graphical capability. It only has 10mb of video memory (10mb!!!! my 2002 computer has more) and the ps3 has 256. Put that into perspective. The ps3 has more than 200x the graphical capabilities of the 360. So if Xbox is producing games that look as good as Bioshock on a 10mb video card and thats at its limit - Then i cannot possibly imagine what PS3'S upcoming titles COULD look like.
THANKS FOR READING. HOPE THIS HELPED. AND 2008 IS THE YEAR OF THE PS3!!
