Money Wasting:

  • After seeing some despicable money wasting last summer and in the past month i have decided to share my knowledge on star wars lego. Who knows it might save you money! This is well worth a read

Sets:

  • Even new sets have their pitfalls, a sellers favourite way to make money is to buy a new in sealed box set, and sell the minifigs and/or space ship seperately
  • If the price of a new set seems ridiculously cheap, its probably because it does not include minifigs.
  • The best place to buy modern sets is often on the official lego website
  • Sellers often will buy from there and sell for a profit on ebay.

Minifigs:

  • SW minifigs are often worth more than the pieces in a set. Don't buy a minifig by itself when you can buy the set for the same price.
  • General Grievous is a popular one, often selling for £15 by himself, for £15 you can buy the General Grievous Chase Set, including Grievous, Obi Wan, Boga and Bike from the official lego website.
  • The latest 'craze' is selling minifigs with magnets in the legs, they usually sell for less but you cannot take them apart and they're not collectable, not yet anyway.

Instructions:

  • Don't accidentally bid on instructions when you think you are bidding on a complete set, read the description carefullly.
  • Don't buy pdf's or cds of instructions, instead Search for "brickfactory" on a well known search engine.
  • If you want to buy instructions, fair enough but remember they are only paper so dont overbid on them.

Customs:

  • Custom minifigs and sets are not official lego products and therefore you shouldn't pay the same price as you would for an official product.
  • Sellers make custom figs because the official fig has become too expensive for them to get hold of and still sell for a profit, so they change the colour or design of the figure using less expensive parts or god forebid even paint.
  • The most common ones are Boba Fett, Battle Droids, Jango Fett, Jawas, Jedi Knights, Mace Windu, Snowtroopers and Princess Leia.
  • If unsure ask the seller or even me.

I hope you find this guide useful and it saves you some money. :-)
