Starview Box Fever Started in October 2006. Even that before October 2006 many cable and satellite boxes were already in the market and much better boxes as well such as DreamBox, Eurovox Max and so on.

If many cable boxes were already in market then why Starview Dominated?

The simple reason was the ENTRANCE OF FAKE STARVIEW boxes. Because of CHEAP PRICE everyone was more interested in starview then any other boxes.

Clone Starview Boxes

Most of who bought copy boxes would be regretting now as NEW software for starview doesnt like clone starview. People found out when they downloaded new software into their box, it killed the box .i.e box wasnt turning on afterwards. But still people had a way around it and they could bring clone back to life by Jtagging or by changing the chip.

But whats the point of having clone starview in first place if you later have to spend more on getting it fixed???

How to Tell if your Starview is Genuine?

To all of you who are still wondering wether your starview is GENUINE or Clone compare your box with following pictures.

Power cable should be on left hand side if you are facing box front also it should be bigger in size compared to fake ones

Your remote should be as above pic

On the rear of the box connectors should be like above pic

Some Issues with Starview

There were quite a few issues with starviews being stopped working. One of them was in January 2007 when Vir*in tookover N*L and TELE*EST. Starview boxes stopped working. But they were up again thanks to the updated firmware. It happened again in May 2007 but again New software was available. But compare that to the Eurovox Max 2006, it kept working all the time not even single updated was needed. 

So After all this where shall i get starview from?

Here I can give you is Guidelines based on the experience. It can also be used for any other cable box.

1. Get it from someone who you know or can be approached easily
2. Get it from someone local to you (No point driving  an hour for latest software update when needed)
3. Get it with Warranty and make sure you ask for 3 pin UK adapter as Starview powercable has only 2 pins.
4. Get it from someone who is open minded and does give you most of the information. Including how to update and other information
5. Clones Normally dont last for Months but might work for many weeks and if bought from Ebay unless you are 100% sure and satisfied dont leave positive feedback. Doing this can save many potential buyers from buying clone box.
