Tempur™ Mattress Specification & Detail .

Memory Foam

A genuine Tempur™ mattress will consist of a high density memory foam layer wich will be a minimum thickness of 7cm deep (on the Combi 15cm model).  Higher spec models (Combi 20cm, & Deluxe 22cm) are a thickness of 9cm made up of a 7cm memory foam layer and a 2cm "Soft Touch" memory foam layer bonded to the 7cm layer (The deluxe has an extra 2cm of soft touch memory foam incorporated into the outer cover top) the 25cm Combi has 3cm soft touch memory foam bonded to 7cm memory foam and  2 x 7.5cm vented base foams. Tempur™ memory foam has a density of 85kgm3, if it is not 85kgm3, it is not genuine Tempur™.

Base Foam

The base foam is 11cm or 8cm or 7.5cm x 2 (15cm joined together) made from a resilient polyurethane foam which has a distinctive egg box effect on its surface, this is clearly identifiable by a row of slight v shaped semicircle air channels which are approximately half the area of a 2p coin dotted around the mattress by approx 2.5cm spacing, these are visible from all 4 sides (if this egg box effect venting is not present it is not genuine Tempur™) this vented base foam is joined to the memory foam. (There are 2 rows of vents visible on the 25cm Combi as shown below in picture 3). The foam pictured below is genuine Tempur™ (with the stockinet inner cover removed) Tempur™ foam should be this colour,  the memory foam (A & B) is actually a very slight shade lighter than the base foam when viewed in person  unfortunately the camera could not pick up this slight variation.

Serial Number

The whole mattress is factory sealed by over lock stitching into a semi transparent non removable stockinet inner cover.  Through the stockinet at one end of the mattress usually the foot you should be able to read the imprinted factory ID Serial number which is a clear dot matrix type font 12mm high & spanning a total of approx 43cm wide (the serial codes are made up from a mixture of letters & numbers), There are 2 lines of serial codes directly on top of each other printed into the memory foam (not the base foam) the top & bottom line will read something similar to this:

T85-XXXX XXXXX / XX XXXXXX XX : XX

T85-XXXX XXXXX / XX XXXX   XXXXX / XX

These dot matrix numbers & letters which are deeply impregnated would be impossible to remove or alter without breaking open the sealed stockinet inner cover and damaging the memory foam, the codes will validate and fully identify the where, when, who, what & why of your mattress, UK and International models all have this marking system and are made in the  Tempur™ Pedic Int factory in Denmark,. serial numbers can usually be checked out by calling Tempur™ Costumer Services.

Outer Cover

The Combi model comes with a very high quality 320g/m3 durable velour cover, the Tempur™ logo of the sleeping lady design is woven into the material, this is an extremely high quality heavy duty velour which is anti mite and anti allergy treated, the cover unzips from all 4 sides for removal and can be machine washed, the bottom of the cover is a canvas like material with non slip & breathable properties. The Deluxe model cover is made from TEMPUR-Tex™ with in-built humidity control, it has a similar look & feel to the traditional Combi material but has and extra 2cm of soft touch memory foam embedded into the cover forming a quilt effect in large squares, (the Deluxe cover is permanently fitted and can not be removed for cleaning).

Transportation & Storage

Tempur State in thier ownership booklet that "Combi mattresses must be stored flat".  Mattresses should not be vacume packed & rolled or folded. The memory foam material Tempur™ manufacture is so Heavy & dense that it could fracture / split or damage (especially in cold weather) if shipped / stored incorrectly. Genuine Tempur™ mattresses are always delivered by Tempur in thier full size state because of this fact.

Tempur Guarantee

Contrary to belief, the Tempur™ mattress guarantee is actually only two (2) years however, you are able to take advantage of the Tempur extended guarantee option (currently free of charge) extending the cover to a 15 year limited gaurantee. The 15 year guarantee is not automatic! you will need to either return the registration card supplied with your mattress or you can register on line at the Tempur™ web site. I would suggest that you do both, that way Tempur™ are fully informed.

Alternative Products

Please be careful when considering alternative products as many do not come up to the mark.

Its easy to buy a cheap Tempur™ style mattress on eBay no matter how much you pay for it!!! The art is to buy a quality Tempur™ style mattress at a cheap price, what are the odds of that happening??? (Please check our feedback to find the answer).

Please take a look at my other reviews for specific info on Spot Fake Tempur on eBay & Tempur Alternatives or Visit Our eBay Store for discounted Genuine Tempur & Tempur style Mattresses, Pillows, Specialist & Electrical Adjustable Beds.

We hope this guide has been of useful assistance to you, (if so, please let us know, click YES & leave your vote below). Best regards & sleep well, Combi-uk.
