Whilst eBay allow email addresses to appear in listing descriptions it easy for those who take over eBay accounts to run their scams.

Any listing, no matter how long it is running for, with an email address is a potential scam and should be treated with mistrust.

If the text tells you that you MUST email the seller then it is ALWAYS a scam.

The reason that this text is there is because when an account is hijacked by scammers they are unable to change the account email address and do not want you to use the 'email seller' option as it will warn the real owner of the account.

Two things you might do. Contact the real owner with the 'email seller' link or BETTER STILL contact eBay direct using the Live Chat service because often these scammers have taken over more than one account and I have seen up to 900 listings just by one scammer shared amongst 6 accounts.

The link for the live chat service is EBAY LIVE CHAT  Go near the bottom of the eBay page for the actual link.

If the live chat page tells you the wait time is going to be long you can still type your information in the text box and send it as it will eventually get read. I often do this and just leave it, opening a new browser window to continue using the interent.

Below is a useful template

These accounts have been hijacked............... and are being used for scam listings.

The scammer is using this email address .............. ...     in the listing descriptions and I suggest you search eBay for more since these reports often get mismanaged and not ALL accounts are returned properly; so old reports of scams using this email address may NOT have been acted upon.

If you do not want to use the Live Chat service click THIS LINK and click on the 'Email Us with your question' link on the eBay page.
