The Last Hangman is a dark tale based on real life of the UK's last Hangman.

Responsible for the hanging of the post war German war crimes including Herr Goring and members of the SS, the film then moves to Ruth Ellis the last female to be hanged in the UK.  The portral shows the traumatic effect these events had on the Character palyed by Tim Spalding, a very eloquent and powerful performance in this evocative film.

It is not an entertaining film in so ar as there are no cheap laughs or scenes designed for the big screen effects however it is a moving detaled snapshot of a time when capital punishment was the practise in the UK as the measure of last resort.

The conclusion quotes the last hangman as changing his view as capital punishmnet has no useful purpose other than revenge.

Recommended for a somber night in.  Available on DVD.  running time 1hr 50 mins.
