The Presidential Dollar Coin series is a new type of regular, circulating dollar coin, issued by the U.S. Mint that began this year. These dollar coins are made on the same planchets as the Sacagawea 'Golden' dollars.  An interesting change is the new edge lettering! Motto, Date, and mintmark are now on the edge of the coin rather than on the obverse or reverse.  The new Presidential Dollars will be issued at the rate of 4 yearly starting with George Washington until all of the U.S. Presidents have been featured, expected to be the year 2016.

Living Presidents will not be coined.  Presidents must be deceased for two years before they qualify.
