If you would like to buy utility pieces then always look for vintage used items as they are far superior in quality to the modern made goods.
Water jacks, ....well I love Llwellyns of Darlington for quality and durability, seconded by Elgin of Scotland.
Cast wares................check for hollow sounds and surface cracking.............swinging pots should have a lid, make sure it matches, and SIDDONS, is a good manufacturer, I also like HOLCROFT or the Irish manufacturer SWAINE which has the shamrock embossed on the underside. The rule of thumb is the smaller the item i.e small kettles and pots, the more expensive and rare.
Check out Swinderby and Newark antique fairs, also cast is very much still around in Ireland if you look up and down the country,.
Beware of new re casts, these are often shoddy with sharp edges, also they are often sprayed black.
Milk churns, ...............the 5 gallon aluminium is rare now and the best were from Swift of Scarborough in my opinion. Again check welds and for matching lids. The 5 gall is rarer and will fetch twice the price of the bigger 10 gallon size.
pot drops for the chitty irons are various and varied in style, they can be long or short, rigid or in ring form, again these are rare nowadays. Look for french pot hooks which are good and have age to them.
Ive been collecting and dealing in these items for many years so I hope this has been a help. Kind regards , and Kushty bok, Tinker
