Each year in the UK alone over £1billion is wasted on tires and also upto 90% of vehicles are running on incorrect tyre pressures which increases the chances of an accident, wears tyres out much quicker and increases fuel consumption. This is hitting the UK public and business pocket heavily so we thought we would write a guide to see if we can help people to save some of that hard earned cash.
Drivers who don’t check there tires spend around £200million on new tyres and £800million on fuel.
Around 2500 fatal and serious accidents happen every year caused by deflated tyres and blowouts.
Checking tyre pressure is very important because all tyres suffer from air loss due to porosity leaks, bead + rim leaks and valve leaks. Under inflated tyres will cost you more money in extra fuel, tyre wear, uneven tyre wear and are very dangerous. Under inflated tyres run hotter and have a lot less grip causing corning, breaking and straight line steering stability problems. The biggest problem with under inflated tyres are blow outs which at speed can have fatal consequences.
If you make regular long journeys you should check your tyre pressure every week and every 2 weeks for lower use and also the tread depth which in the UK is a minimum of 1.6mm. Many tyres have wear indicators which can be seen as rubber blocks sticking up from between the remaining tread. If these indicators appear level with the tread surface, then the tyre should be changed immediately. If you don’t you risk putting yourself and other drivers at risk and also you can be fined per illegal tyre and in some cases summonsed per illegal tire.
So keep yourself and others safe and save yourself some money......
Hope this guide helps and thanks for reading.
