University of dub - SE1 club, London Bridge, Friday 7th September 2007

Featuring Aba-shanti, Iration Steppas and Channel one sound system..

It's back!! After many years at the recreation centre in Brixton the university of dub has a new home at the se1 club.... and what a nice place it is!

As the focal point for dub sounds in london it was important to find a new venue in which to hold these dances. Fortunately for everyone the SE1 club will hopefully prove a great meeting place for sound system followers. On the evidence of this first night i'm sure that the university will continue for some time to come. The se1 club is a great place to experience a Reggae sound, being dark and atmospheric. It also has the size and space that is required, somewhere these giants of the scene can really let off. All too often these days we have to go to small venues and this does not always justify fully what the sound systems have to offer... the SE1 club does and let the show go on!!!!

All three sounds played out of their skins with the resident Aba shanti proving the perfect foil for the visiting sounds... Iration Steppas sound system has been updated extensively in recent times and now matches their dubs perfectly... Special mention going to their version of "money" with original vocalist Horace Andy....wicked!! "Iration steppas loves his sound more than money"... He is also playing a tune which is slow and heavy with definate Techno overtones which does the business...

Channel one, always a pleasure to hear came with versions of Kunte Kinte and Hunter man and didn't want to stop playing. A good old fashioned Dub sound system, long may they continue....
