Ive never found a definitive list of Irish Car Boot Sales & Markets and as a kitchenalia seller i spend a lot of my time looking for them. Markets can vary greatly in style from ones that provide mostly new clothing stalls to ones that are filled to the brim with cheap antique treasures. Before you dedicate your Sunday to tracking one down, read my reviews and you might be able to make a more informed decision...

Un Yoke Market & Car Boot Sale is one of my old reliables. It operates every sunday morning year round. It is located before Castlebridge on the main wexford coastal road(near the turn off for screen & curracloe). Shoppers begin looking at stock as soon as sellers open their cars (which can be as early as 6.30am). i usually arrive around 7.30 whatever time of year it is. This guarantees i get the bargains before the sunday browsers but i also dont end up looking over the sellers shoulder as they lift stuff out of the boot of their car.

This market has a large car park which you pay to park in (2euro per car last time i was there). The stalls up near the car park always have the best bargains and you can find real treasures if you are willing to root around in piles of salvage on the ground. There is a fair mix of new stalls (phone covers & clothes) and old salvage sellers in this market, but one thing the unyoke is not known for is its decorative antiques (there are the odd few ladies with china figureens but nothing exiciting or collectable).

I am never disappointed with this market and always come away with astonishing bargains in antique furniture. The enamelware/kitchenalia is overpriced if you look on the tidy stalls. But you can pretty much always root out some old kitchen stuff from the salvage stalls (and the dustier it is the cheaper it usually is).

Conclusion
This market is ideal for the early riser who is willing to get their hands dirty. The majority of stalls have stuff laid out on the ground and this pretty much guarantees lower prices than tider, better organised markets. You will not find a lot of good china/porcelain here and if you see a stall with nothing only antiques, steer clear! cos these are usually items purchased earlier that morning from the salvage stalls and marked up before you get there.

Notes
  • This is a very windy market that is open to the elements, it is also very dusty/muddy depending on the season. Wear gloves & sunglasses and bring a flask of tea and i assure you, you’ll love it as much as i do !
  • The people who run this market do a fabulous job cleaning up the site when traders leave. Because of this many stall holders leave any unwanted stock on the ground and head off home at around 3pm. If you see a pile of clothes or old furniture standing ominously in a corner on its own, have a closer look. I have failed to do so in the past and have cried to see old kitchen tables smashed up in the back of the “tidying trailor”. Thankfully, ive also found some of my greatest treasures this way too.
