Utility furniture was made between 1943 and 1952 and bears a CC41 mark.  Despised in its day, and just after it is now moderately popular. The Utility scheme was a scheme made necessary by the conditions of total war in the UK between 1939 and 1945. Materials for making consumer goods were in short supply or needed by the Armed Forces. However some people were in need of consumer goods and these were made and rationed to those who really needed them. This included newly-weds and those who had been bombed out who were eligible for utiity furniture. They could only buy up to 60 points worth, a dining chair being 1 point and a 4 ft wardrobe being 16 points.
