WOOD DYEING USING DYLON COLD WATER DYE
· For dyeing solid wooden items only.
· Rubber gloves must be worn.
Instructions:
1. Rub down to bare wood and clean thoroughly. Ensure there is no varnish or
other special finishes remaining on the wood.
2. Allow to dry.
3. Dissolve the contents of 1 tin of Cold Water Dye in 250ml of warm water.
Add 250ml of Methylated Spirits and stir well.
4. Apply solution evenly with a brush, sponge or cloth.
5. Allow to dry.
6. Achieve darker shades by applying more coats ensuring that each coat is
left to dry before the next one is added.
7. To protect dyed areas, the wood should be treated with a clear wood
sealant. Solvent based products give better results than water based.
Useful Tips:
1. Always work with the grain of the wood.
2. Brushes may be cleaned with water.
3. Unused dye may be stored in a screw top jar for up to 1 month.
4. Dye will not cover wood previously treated with wood sealants, unless it has
been completely removed.
5. Do not use Cold Fix or salt.
6. The original colour of the wood will affect the final result. Best results are
obtained on pale coloured woods such as pine.
