I have been looking for several new cameras lately, and am amazed at some of the hype in adverts

Read the ad carefully, there is a huge number of refurbished cameras on auction, and I have seen people pay the normal new price for them. The ads are so long, including every little detail, but this is a good way to disguise the small sentence that says it is refurbished.

I have seen small tripods as a gift with the camera, claiming they are worth £9.99, yet they are available in high st discount stores for 99p. Same goes for the cleaning kit, bag and card reader offered as a gift with them.  Maybe the camera in the auction is equally over valued?

Check if it is supported in your country, and also note the warranty time. A 90 day warranty on a camera that has taken 4000+ shots already isn't worth much. Better value to buy a new one in the UK.

You may also have to pay import duty, whatever they may mark it as to avoid it.

Check online camera shops, and check prices and models.

Personally, I think the best second hand camera is only worth 66% of the price of a new one, certainly not more than the price of a new one.
