All guitars (acoustic, classical, electric) come in different sizes: full (4/4), 3/4, 1/2, 1/4.  Full size is the most common size and has the most choices to choose from.  3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 sizes are for kids.  All adults, regardless of their size, use full size guitars.
Although Full Size guitars are the most popular, all types of guitars come in different sizes to accomodate younger guitar students. Since full size guitars are the most popular, there are more models and colors to choose from in full size guitars. Choice and selection are much more narrow in smaller guitars, i.e. 3/4 and 1/2 size guitars. A guitar should not present too long a reach so as to strain the wrist. Children's sizes will vary based on age alone, but here are our well-educated guesstimates. These guidelines are generalized and may overlap so if the child is tall or short for their age, or entering the next age group soon consider these variables.

Choosing the right size guitar to use depends the arm's reach of your child.  You can use age to determine the approximate guitar size for your child using the following chart.

Age                            Size
up to 6 years old         1/4 size
6- 8 years old             1/2 size
9 - 11 years old          3/4 size
12+ and adult             Full size (4/4)
