Now the idea of Beast down is to get all your high powered beasts on the field with Enraged Battle Ox allowing them to trample those Spirit Reapers and Treeborn Frogs and what have you. The Ox is the key card of the deck so let’s take a look at him.
Enraged Battle Ox
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level: 4
Atk: 1700
Def: 1000
As long as this card remains face-up on your side of the field, when Beast, Beast-Warrior and Winged Beast-Type monsters on your side of the field attack with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of your opponent's Defence Position Monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points.
As you can see his stats are pretty average but his effect is what stands out, giving all your Beast, Beast-Warrior and Winged Beast the Piercing ability. Also he is an Earth monster so you won’t see him in most CC builds.
Ox’s effect allows you to scare your opponents with your other Beasts so let’s take a look at them;
Berserk Gorilla
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level: 4
Atk: 2000
Def: 1000
If this card is in face-up Defence Position on the field, destroy this card. The controller of this card must attack with this card when possible.
This steady 2000 attacker has two draw-backs. His defence destruction ability and his must attack rule. The defence destruction leaves him susceptible to cards like Level-Limit Area B and Enemy Controller. It also stops you from trying to use him to defend your life-points but, generally you won’t be using your monsters to defend, just attack. That’s where the second rule comes in, Berserk Gorilla must attack every turn unless a card like Swords of Revealing Light is stopping him, even if your opponent has a stronger monster on the field, you’ll just have to get rid of it or lose your gorilla.
Bazoo the Soul-Eater
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level: 4
Atk: 1600
Def: 900
You can remove up to 3 monster cards in your Graveyard from play to increase the ATK of this monster by 300 points for each card removed from play until the end of your opponent's next turn. This effect can only be used once during your turn.
The big daddy of level 4 beasts. Using Bazoo’s effect you can boost him up to 1900, 2200 or 2500, strong enough to take out Cyber Dragon, the Monarchs, Jinzo or that pesky Sorcerer. This guy mainly is run in his own deck type with cards like Magical Merchant filling the graveyard and Return from the Different Dimension providing the win condition. In my opinion Bazoo is just too good to leave out of a beast down deck and provides a second win condition after Beasting your opponent down.
Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level: 4
Atk: 2300
Def: 0
If this card attacks, it is changed to Defence Position at the end of the Battle Phase. This card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, except with a card effect.
This guy can come off the top of the deck and onto the field straight away without tribute for a 2300 smack at your opponent, to remove that Cyber Dragon, duel with that Sorcerer or do your opponent’s Spirit Reaper over the non-existent head using Enraged Battle Ox. After the battle phase has ended this card must be switched to defence position which leaves it to be freely destroyed with 0 defence points.
King Tiger Wanghu
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level: 4
Atk: 1700
Def: 1000
As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all monsters with an ATK equal to 1400 or less that are Normal Summoned or Special Summoned (excluding Flip Summon) are automatically destroyed.
This boy screams anti-CC in a meta full of Spirit Reapers and Battle Searchers. This guy will stop your opponent from summoning that Mystic Tomato/Shining Angel or flipping that Scapegoat (although with Enraged Battle Ox on the field they shouldn’t be a problem).
The final level 4 to look at is this bad old centaur;
Chiron the Mage
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level:4
Atk: 1800
Def: 1000
Discard 1 Spell Card from your hand. Destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on your opponent's side of the field. This effect can only be used once per turn.
Now basically by discarding a spell you can take out your opponent’s Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, Sakuretsu Armor, Royal Decree, anything that may be pestering you or about to stop you from winning. With a solid 1800 attack this guy is no push over but like most other, fails in comparison to Cyber Dragons and other commonly played cards. Still an 1800 attack trampler is nothing to laugh at.
That does it for the level 4s so let us take a look at the one lower level monster I would include;
Nimble Momonga
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level:2
Atk: 1000
Def: 100
When this card is sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, increase your Life Points by 1000 points. You can also Special Summon up to 2 "Nimble Momonga" cards from your Deck to your side of the field in face-down Defence Position. Then shuffle your Deck.
Baker’s favourite monster is included in this deck as it provides field presence and an extra 1000 life-points. It searching ability thins the deck and the searched Nimbles can also be used as a free tribute for my higher level monsters. The downside is that you can get more than one in your hand which slows down the deck because you have two useless weak monsters in hand instead of one and a big monster.
So are monster line-up looks like this;
2 Enraged Battle Ox
2 Berserk Gorilla
2 Bazoo the Soul-Eater
2 King Tiger Wanghu
1 Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei
2 Chiron the Mage
3 Nimble Momonga
Now let’s look at the Beast tribute monsters.
There are many different Beasts tribute monsters but I’m only going to look at the two that I have included in this deck.
Behemoth the King of all Animals
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level:7
Atk: 2700
Def: 1500
This card can be Normal Summoned or Set with 1 Tribute Monster. In that case, the original ATK of this card becomes 2000. When this card is Tribute Summoned successfully, you can return from your Graveyard to the owner's hand a number of Beast-Type monsters equal to the number of Tributed monsters.
Now this guy is the big dude of the deck. He can either be Normal Summoned using two tributes and having his normal 2700 attack or you can tribute that one remaining nimble and have a 2000 attack beat-stick. Although 2000 is quite low for a level 5/6, Behemoth’s second effect allows you to return to your hand the same amount of Beast-Type monsters as you tributed. In this deck you have Nimble Momonga, Bazoo the Soul-Eater, King Tiger Wanghu and Berserk Gorilla.
Manticore of Darkness
Attrib: Fire
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level:6
Atk: 2300
Def: 1000
During the End Phase of the turn this card is sent to the Graveyard, send 1 Beast, Beast-Warrior or Winged Beast-Type Monster Card from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard to Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.
Now this guy can be some fun. You can tribute him, have him destroyed through battle or smashed and then in the end phase return him to your side of the field by sending one of your beasts to your graveyard. Your Manticore then returns to pester your opponent for another turn or two. Being level 6 he requires only one tribute and his 2300 attack can take care of Cyber Dragons or suicide with Chaos Sorcerer or Blowback Dragon only to return in the end phase. You could also send another Manticore to the graveyard and create a loop although this could result in a game loss if you do it to stall the game. This combo used to be used in Exodia decks with Card of Safe Return.
My tributes now look like this;
1 Behemoth the King of all Animals
2 Manticore of Darkness.
Other Tributes that could be used in Beastdown;
Ghost Knight of Jackal
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level:5
Atk: 1700
Def: 1600
You can Special Summon an opponent's monster that is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by this card as a result of battle to your side of the field in face-up Defense Position.
Mystical Knight of Jackal
Attrib: Light
Type: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level:7
Atk: 2700
Def: 1200
You can return your opponent's own monster that is sent to the Graveyard by this monster as a result of battle to the top of his/her Deck.
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
Attrib: Fire
Type: Winged Beast/Effect
Level:8
Atk: 2400
Def: 1600
If this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon this card during your next Standby Phase. If you Special Summon this card successfully in this way, destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.
Sacred Phoenix sees the most play but the two Jackals are fun to play and Mystical Knight could ultimately create a lock on your opponent.
So our monsters look like this;
1 Behemoth the King of all Animals
2 Manticore of Darkness.
2 Enraged Battle Ox
2 Berserk Gorilla
2 Bazoo the Soul-Eater
2 King Tiger Wanghu
1 Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei
2 Chiron the Mage
3 Nimble Momonga
2 Mystic Swordsmen Lv2
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Sangan
There is not really many decent spell support for Beasts but Wild Nature’s Release is the most interesting;
Wild Nature's Release
Group: Spell Card
Type: Spell
Increase the ATK of 1 face-up Beast-Type or Beast-Warrior-Type Monster on the field by an amount equal to its DEF. Destroy the monster during the End Phase.
Almost like Limiter Removal, Wild Nature’s Release allows for a quick finish or to remove a high powered threat that you can’t get rid of any other way. Just think that Bazoo the Soul-Eater that you have just powered up to 2500 attack can now attack for 3400 damage taking out all commonly played monsters. In my opinion I would leave these to the side deck though as they can provide poor top decks.
So our will look like this;
1 Snatch Steal
1 Heavy Storm
1 Premature Burial
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Graceful Charity
2 Smashing Ground
2 Enemy Controller
Now there are two trap out that go well in this deck;
Beast Soul Swap
Group: Trap Card
Type: Trap
Return to the owner's hand 1 face-up Beast-Type monster on your side of the field, and the owner of that card Special Summons 1 Beast-Type monster that has the same Level as the monster that you returned.
Using this card you can tribute a monster that has already attacked and special summon another for a direct assault on your opponent’s life points or to get rid of a monster that’s standing in your way.
Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane
Group: Trap Card
Type: Trap
Tribute 1 EARTH monster on your side of the field. Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower EARTH monster from your Graveyard, except the Tributed monster.
Like Beast Soul Swap this card lets you tribute one monster to special summon another.
These two cards can remove targets for card effects or for attacks and bring out an entirely new monster for you to wage war with or defend your life points.
Our trap line up looks like this;
2 Beast Soul Swap
2 Spiritual Earth Art – Kurogane
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Mirror Force
2 Return from the Different Dimension
So our deck list in total is
1 Behemoth the King of all Animals
2 Manticore of Darkness.
2 Enraged Battle Ox
2 Berserk Gorilla
2 Bazoo the Soul-Eater
2 King Tiger Wanghu
1 Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei
2 Chiron the Mage
3 Nimble Momonga
2 Mystic Swordsmen Lv2
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Sangan
1 Snatch Steal
1 Heavy Storm
1 Premature Burial
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Graceful Charity
2 Smashing Ground
2 Enemy Controller
2 Beast Soul Swap
2 Spiritual Earth Art – Kurogane
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Mirror Force
2 Return from the Different Dimension
42 Cards
Other Beast related deck-types that can be used are;
Harpie Lady
Phoenix Control
Phoenix Beast-down
Bazoo Beast-down
There is one card that would help Beast-down which is only available in the OCG.
Mori no Bannin Green Baboon
Attrib: Earth
Type: Beast/Effect
Level:7
Atk: 2600
Def: 1800
You can Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard by paying 1000 Life Points when at least 1 Beast-Type monster on your side of the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard.
When your Nimble Momongas are attacked and destroyed you can bring out two more and your Baboon with out it changing your life-points. Your opponent may start to regret attacking that Nimble now.
