This guide outlines the difference in body size and type between the 3 main Zapf Creation baby dolls – Baby Born, Baby Annabell and Chou Chou.

When their manufacturer, Zapf Creation, produce clothes and accessories, they make them specifically for each style of doll. Zapf do not create ‘one size fits all’ clothes.

For something a bit different for your baby doll’s wardrobe, there are many eBayers, myself included, producing handmade clothes. But what should you consider when choosing an outfit?

This picture shows the dolls in their birthday suits. As you can see, the dolls are quite different.

  • BABY BORN is the smallest baby (height 43cm). Her body is plastic and her limbs and head are vinyl which means she is bathable. She looks great in a bikini, halter neck or sleeveless dress, vest or crop top. As she does not have any internal electronics, her body is quite small and is narrower than the bigger babies. Her arms are about an inch shorter than Annabell’s, but as they are rigid, she can carry a handbag well!
  • BABY ANNABELL is the mid-sized baby (height 46cm). She has a soft cotton body that houses her batteries and electronics. This makes her wider around the waist than Baby Born. Her shoulders and upper legs are cloth. These would be visible if she wore a sleeveless top or dress. She suits short sleeved dresses and, with her wide body and floppy arms, she looks great in fleece tops. Unlike Baby Born, she cannot hold her arms up unassisted to hold a handbag so would be better with a shoulder bag. The baby doll pictured is Baby Annabell 3. Baby Annabells 1 and 2 are earlier models with Annabell 2 being slightly smaller and Annabell 1 smaller still.
  • CHOU CHOU is the biggest girl (height 48cm). Bikini wearing should be avoided in favour of a Queen Victoria style bathing suit! Chou Chou has a 36cm waist compared to Baby Born’s little 29cm waist. The cloth on her arms and legs extends more than that on Annabell’s limbs. She would look best in a long sleeved top, long skirt, trousers or babygrow. Her floppy arms and legs make her very baby-like so she particularly suits soft, snuggly fabrics such as fleece and jersey.

SHOES

The following picture shows the difference in size between the dolls’ feet. Chou Chou’s toes curl like those of a real baby meaning she requires quite roomy shoes. Baby Annabell would not sit still for this photo, but her foot size is between the two sizes shown.

HATS

There is only a 2cm variation in the head circumferences of the baby dolls. As many hats on eBay are fleecy, knitted or elasticated, they should fit all the baby dolls.
