There are conflicting reports on the Internet about fake Kenwood walkie talkies. These sets come in from China and Asia and are priced around the £50 region, which includes postage. It is very hard to spot the difference between the copies and the real thing. The TK- 2207 covers 136MHz - 174MHz and the TK-3207 covers 430MHz - 470MHz. They transmit on 1 watt low power and 5 watts high power. The batteries dont hold a charge for long so if you buy replacement ones for about £10 (from Ireland which give a one year guarantee) the sets give a good performance and an excellent range. Real batteries do fit these sets, not as stated in other reviews Their construction is rugged and take a good knock! They come programmed with 15 out of 16 channels, working back to back but can be programmed using the KPG-87D software available on the internet to download. Programming cables are available from the suppliers and do work, not as stated as non working elsewhere. The CTCSS systems do not work so they transmit on the exact frequency set. This is a good thing as it stops idiots trying to get onto the Coast Guard Channel 0 and 00 (as they use varying CTCSS tones for each lifeboat) and the Ambulance service who also use CTCSS but they do have an open mode! I am not suggesting that you buy these radios as they are not made by the genuine Kenwood company and do not conform to the UK radio operating system. Ofcom, the UK radio regulators in the UK are hot on tracking illegal sets if someone is too obvious, ie taxi companies giving locations. These sets are often available on ebay so don't pay more than £50 per set (It would be rare to find a genuine one of these models on there but take care that if you buy a TK-2202 it might infact be a TK-2202e (European version) for which the programming software KPG-87D v 101 is very hard to get hold of. Again I am not condoning the use of these sets as they are illegal to use (but not to own) so take care out there and buy genuine items for which you must have a license in advance to operate from Ofcom. These radios may interfere with legal radio operators. In the old days it was illegal to advertise Radio Caroline and its frequency. You could be prosecuted for displaying that. I got around it by producing posters saying
