I saw a Ford Focus with "light damage to wing" advertised on eBay the advertisment gave a mobile contact no. I telephoned car_salvage and asked if there was any other damage and if the car would drive the 250 miles home. I was told by a Mr Oliver Farmer that this was the only damage and as advertised it "drives lovely" as there was less than 2 hrs to go I placed my bids confident that it was described accurately.

After looking closer at the pictures I saw what looked like an airbag poking out of the drivers seat so I again telephoned Mr Farmer and asked why he hadn't mentioned this, he said not to worry he will replace the airbag and repair the seat. Happy with this I arranged to pick the car up at a mutually agreed time and date.

As the car had no road tax I hired a flat bed to get it home, when I arrived it was dark and Mr Farmer went around the back of his premises and drove the car on to the back of the lorry counted my money and disappeared.

I then saw the heated front screen was smashed beyond repair I tried to phone Mr Farmer but his phone appeared to be switched off.

When I got the car home the extent of the damage became more apparent,

1. It had been hit in the rear pushing the rear wing forward so the tailgate no longer fitted, result repairs and jacking out to rear wing and new bumper cover.

2. The wheel bearing was smashed to pieces so it would not have driven any further, result new hub

3. Someone had put the incorrect driveshaft in and doing so damaged the gearbox., result new driveshaft and repair to g/box.

4. Damage to both sills suspected to be where it was lifted by recovery hiab, result 2 new sills required.

5. Advertised with CD multichanger but only has a non working single CD player.

6. Don't really know if there is an airbag in the drivers seat as there are no wires to connect to the module.

I gave Mr Farmer every opportunity to resolve the matter and he offered a partial refund which I agreed to but he never honoured this and left me with no option other than to leave negative feedback.

I informed eBay about this being totally misdescribed and opened a dispute even though eBay are aware of car_salvage SCHILL BIDDING activities using different ID's to push their prices up even buying their own cars and leaving themselves feedback they seem unprepared to act, I suppose listing fees and selling fees are more important to eBay

IF YOU LOOK AT THEIR FEEDBACK IT IS 100% POSITIVE BUT IF YOU READ THE FEEDBACK COMMENTS (APART FROM THEIR OWN USER NAMES WHICH THEY WILL USE TO BID AGAINST YOU AND PUSH UP THE PRICE) THEY ARE STILL RIPPING A LOT OF PEOPLE OFF AND MISDESCRIBING THEIR LISTINGS

I would like to add that this is my only bad experience buying cars damaged or undamaged via eBay I suppose the answer is look before you bid or check before you hand over any cash .

I would like to recommend a man near Newcastle who goe under the name of "fanta400" he deals mainly in sporty Citroens and Peugeots, (salvage and spares) his descriptions are very accurate if he says small dent it is likely to be invisible and his prices are very low, he is also very helpful and polite.
