Fake spyder on ebay has become a big problem over the last few years

These fake jackets and pants are cheaply made items mostly from shanghai china

They can be purchased there for around £15 each

I am going to give you tips to help you spot them in the listing

A few points to help you

1 - the jackets inner lining

the inner lining of fake jackets is nearly allways the silver spyderweb pattern with the dark grey background as seen in the left and centre pics above and in quite a few pics from the link

this was a pattern used by spyder some 6 or 7 seasons ago but not anymore

ask the seller for a picture of the inside if they hav'nt included one

all the 2010 inner linings are pretty much plain black

2 - labels

The labels on fake jacket are nearly allways attatched to the main zip (viewed zipped up or down)

the labels on genuine jackets are allways attatched to the end of the left sleeve or the lower left pocket

this makes it easy to view them in the display racks

3 - Description

Genuine spyder jackets ALL have a model name be it leader,rival,andermatt,alpen,zermatt or whatever

there are no spyder jackets that are called "spyder sking range" or "outdoor range" , they ALL have a name so ask the seller what it is

if they make up a name then check out www . spyder . com and see if it looks any thing like the one they are selling

dont be surprised if it looks nothing like it - or more likley you wont get an answer at all

4 - lens wipe

All genuine spyder jackets apart from the very bottom range have a lens wipe on a shock cord see pic above right

the 2010 season just has one large spider printed on it as opposed to lots of little ones like the older one above

ask the seller for picture of this - again there could be silence

update on this - they dont seem to be putting them on many of the womens quest range jackets for the 2010 season

5 - style

most of the fake jackets seem to be a poor copy of the zermatt model from about 5 years ago

they have never made an exact copy of any model - these are more a "made up" colour combination and style

6 - inner labels

the picture bottom left is the inner coller label of a 2009 legend range jacket

the picture bottom middle is the inner coller label of a 2010 legend range jacket

the picture bottom right is the inner coller label of a 2010 quest range jacket.

I do also believe that not all the sellers of the fake jackets are aware that they are fake - not everyone knows this product - not all these sellers are even skiers or snowboarders , never even been to the alps in fact - they are just trying to do a bit of buisness like most sellers on ebay - they have been wrongly sold this product as genuine and try to sell it on believing this to be the case - when ebay do pick up on it (only by instruction from an austhorised person from spyder) they will remove the item and suspend the seller if they try to list something like this again - so low feedback scores are a giveaway beacause the serial seller will just start up with another userrname

I know the product inside out so it is easy for me to tell fakes from just pictures

beware of the "previous season stock" - no one has this many jackets from last year

i am lucky to find more than 1 or 2 of any style and colour from the us dealers i deal with - they are very thin on the ground

i am more than happy to advise anyone on a listing they suspect as being fake

just send me the item no and ill give you my opinion

Spyder is the best quality ski wear you can buy - good quality ski wear could one day save your life

you would not want to be stuck out on the mountain for the night wearing one of these fake jackets

they have no effective insulation or any degree of water repelantcy

the last thing you want if stuck out for the night is to be WET

Also cheak out www  madeinchina .com - this is one of the sourses of these fakes

A lot of genuine spyder is made in china in fact nearly all of the legend range and quest range is made there - the big mountain and venom stuff is mostly made in vietnam , bangaladesh and indonesia 

But dont fall for the " these all come from the same factories - they are just the same " - this is total bol---ks

trusted sellers for genuine spyder on ebay are mainly us sellers like stryke-back , otsimir (mawer autions ) , freico , mercedise mix ,darky bg , edd skis to name a few - there are some uk sellers appearing ill update this when i get more info - i know one of the trusted uk ebay sellers is severnsports
