firstly i have to say i am an avid beach boys fan so i may be a bit biased!

on to smiley smile,this was a quick replacement to the album 'smile' touted as one of the best albums of all time.as the beach boys label at the time capitol pushed for brian wilson to finish the 'smile' album,he didn't feel he had enough time to conclude what he had started.so smiley smile was produced as rushed album to fill in for 'smile'.so in early 1967 good vibrations was released to critical acclaim,the song was an absolute smash hit all over the world.the beach boys even beat the beatles to the best vocal group of '67!! strangley though the next single off the album,the classic 'heroes and villian's' took nearly a whole year to be released,by which time the beach boys popularity was waining.we all know that brian wilson (the brains behind the beach boys) had his problems with drug abuse etc but theres no doubt that he had outstanding ability to produce beautiful music.this is an album not really cut in the normal beach boys style i.e fun,fun,fun or surfin' u.s.a,but a more progressive album in many ways,probably something people never expected from the beach boys.anyways this is one of my favourite albums by the beach boys.
