The website www.shiply.com allows any member of the public to upload items they need delivering and have hundreds of transport companies quote for them.
I feel there are some points that need explaining as I don't think the website owners have explained it very well.
Firstly - We are a tranport company and use shiply to find additional loads.
What is starting to annoy a lot of companies on shiply is the information you are told is not entirely the truth. When you accept a bid, you have to pay a deposit to shiply which you are told is then passed on to the transport company. In reality this deposit is kept by shiply as the transport companies 'success fee'. This success fee just happens to be exactly the same amount as your deposit.
Therefore a quote of say £40 must include our Shiply fee (£6) and VAT (£4.43). So in reality that quote is only worth £29.57.
Another point is in regards to how different companies bid on items. I'd have a look and ask yourself one question. If they can afford to quote £40, why were they wanting twice that just 10 minutes ago.
My final point for now is just a warning. As with Ebay, shiply uses a similar feedback system, it is up to you not Shiply to vet each company. Some may not have correct insurance, others make out that they're a big company when they're actually just one 'man & van'.
I'll leave you with one thing. As has already been proven on Shiply, the cheapest quote however tempting it maybe, might not be the best. Always read the company profile & feedback.
